Reminder: 2025/2026 CPD cycle deadline approaching

Let's break down what is required for the 2025/2026 CPD cycle:

Who must complete CPD and how many hours?

The FSCA mandates that FSP’s, Key Individuals (KI’s) and Representatives must complete verifiable CPD activities annually between 1 June and 31 May. According to Board Notice 194 of 2017, the required minimum hours depend on your authorised classes of business:

  • 6 Hours: If you are authorised for a single subclass of business within a single class of business.

  • 12 Hours: If you are authorised for more than one subclass of business, provided they all fall within a single class of business.

  • 18 Hours: If you are authorised for more than one class of business

Crypto Asset Service Provider (CASP)

  • 6 additional hours: If you render financial services relating to crypto assets (FAIS Notice 25 of 2023). You are required to complete an additional minimum of 6 hours of CPD activities specifically related to crypto assets, per CPD cycle. These hours are over and above your standard CPD obligations and cannot be substituted with general CPD training.

Verify your providers

The FSCA has explicitly encouraged financial institutions to verify the accreditation status of their chosen CPD providers. Failure to verify CPD providers and programmes may result in your FSP not meeting the requirements outlined in Board Notice 194 of 2017. To ensure compliance, you must:

  • Verify the accreditation status of the CPD provider through the relevant professional body.

  • Confirm whether reference numbers are valid and associated with approved courses.

‍The FSCA relies on CPD to ensure that financial professionals maintain their technical knowledge, skills, and ethical standards in a rapidly evolving market. Failing to meet the minimum required hours by the end of the cycle has severe implications. With just a few days left in the cycle, now is a good time to check where you stand and complete any outstanding hours.

‍As a reminder, please also ensure that all supporting evidence of your CPD activities is kept on record.
